A lot of times, millennials get a bad rap. We’re often described as lazy, entitled, and sensitive. While this doesn’t embody every single millennial, we’ll admit we have our flaws. But so does every generation. When you actually sit down and compare the different characteristics of each generation, we feel that a business in our industry is much better off being run by millennials.
Why Millennials Are Better Off
Millennials are much different than previous generations. We’ve stemmed the tide and many people view that as a negative. But in our industry, it has numerous advantages. As millennials, we are…
1) Tech & Phone Savvy
Unlike other generations, millennials have had the greatest exposure to phones and new technology. This makes our generation the most intelligent when it comes to technology. By running a business centered around phone charging stations, we’re aware of what our consumers are expecting and have developed products that we feel are superior to competing brands in terms of their features and functionality.
2) More Creative and Innovative
Compared to prior generations, millennials are more creative and innovative because of the way that technology has influenced us. For our business, this has translated to the new products that we’ve been able to create. We also feel that we’re unique in how we’ve developed branding opportunities for clients.
3) Environmentally-Conscious
Millennials are more likely to favor environmentally friendly practices and policies. We feel responsible in making the world a better place to live and want to play a part. As a business, our products were designed with the environment in mind. They use significantly less power than competing brands, and save power when not being used.
4) Open to Change
A lot of businesses are slow to adapt to changes in consumer trends, which is why they fail. As millennials, we’re more open to change, which will make it easier for us to adapt to new trends and develop products that fit the new mold. As portable phone charging has increased in popularity, we responded by creating a portable charging product that businesses can offer to their customers. Having a place to charge your phone on the go fits in with the millennial attitude of always doing a million different things at once.
5) Community-Focused
Millennials want to have a positive impact on their community by playing a greater role. A lot of times, there’s a reciprocal effect if everyone in a community is involved. Within our business, we’ve made an effort by offering our charging stations at local events and allowing Boston area businesses a free 14-day trial with our products.

There was decidedly a ton to learn, see and experience at #SXSW2016. Attendees were able to charge their devices using Veloxity charging stations at the Austin Convention Center, the SXSW Trade Show Meet Up Pavilion and the SXSW 2016 Artist Gifting Lounge. And direct from Boston, the Veloxity team collected some memorable takeaways.
Barack Obama, Tacos and Harnessing The Cool
So there was all the talk about tech, film and music Austin, Texas at SXSW2016. But President Obama and first lady stole the show. Obama’s appearance was the first by a sitting president in the history of the 30-year-old event. After a visit to Torchy’s Tacos (during which he ordered not only a Democrat taco, but also a Republican and an Independent from the menu), President Barack Obama entered to a standing ovation. Well, the SXSW website sums it up with this blurb:
The President, in a conversation with Editor-in-Chief of The Texas Tribune, Evan Smith, called on the SXSW audience, and the tech industry at-large, to solve the nation’s biggest problems by working in conjunction with the United States government. “It’s not enough to focus on the cool, next big thing,” Obama said, “It’s harnessing the cool, next big thing to help people in this country.”
He had a lot to say about digital privacy and security. Specifically, privacy trade-offs may be worth the extra security. Obama tried his best to make peace with the tech community, especially amidst the uproar over the FBI’s legal battle with Apple.
Michelle Obama, Queen Latifah and AOL
The Veloxity team saw First Lady Michelle Obama give her opening keynote for SXSW Music 2016. She discussed the Let Girls Learn initiative, which aims to break barriers for the 62 million girls around the world who are not in school today, more than half of whom are adolescent. The initial
The First Lady chatted with Missy Elliott, Diane Warren, and Sophia Bush. The session was moderated by Queen Latifah. The Keynote was co-presented AOL MAKERS.
The ladies talked movingly about situations that could have been limiting for them personally, from lowered expectations for the young Michelle Obama, growing up on the south side of Chicago, to Queen Latifah, who lost two cousins to the AIDS epidemic and her own experience with activism — “the little action I could take as a teenager.”
Samsung Brought Galaxy Life
Samsung Electronics America, Inc. brought Galaxy Life to the South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive Festival and wowed the Veloxity geeks with the Samsung Studio.
The Samsung Studio experience offers fans access to exclusive events, unforgettable experiences, and special rewards for Samsung Galaxy owners. Plus, a new retail pop-up and chance to explore and enjoy Samsung’s collection of services, products and experiences, including the all-new Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Gear 360 and Gear VR powered by Oculus. Let’s just say that the Veloxity team was awe-struck.
McDonald’s Happy Meal VR Box
McDonald’s unveiled “V-Artist” at the 2016 SXSW festival. Always hungry and eager to be happy, the Veloxity team had the unique opportunity to step inside a virtual Happy Meal Box and tried to be creative.
At the McDonald’s Happy Meal experience during SXSW 2016, the Veloxity team learned that McDonald’s understands how collaboration is as important as convenience. Through VR Experience and the HTC Vive, it’s possible to create artwork and share via social media. In addition to the VR Experience, the introduction of self-servicing kiosks allow building and customizing food. Being a sponsor of SXSW alone makes McDonald’s start to transform its image to work with the tech ecosystem and their techie demos only helps this mission. The “everyone walks away smiling” experience is exactly what Veloxity charging stations provide. Boom!
And, of course, there was Grumpy Cat.
The Veloxity team and the Veloxity device charging solutions are always eager and ready to power up any event. Just ask!
Veloxity device charging solutions and the app SummitSync are decidedly a perfect pair for powerful networking at events.
Networking at events and getting names and numbers can sometimes be like an eighth grade dance. There is some awkwardness and the fine line of being too passive or overly pushy. You don’t want to blow it with your elevator pitch.
Every event goer knows that networking is much more than shaking hands, making small talk, snagging a free schwag bag and getting business cards. It’s about meeting people, sharing who you are and what you do, and gaining relevant, quality contacts and industry related information that you can use to become a more informed industry expert or a top selling sales rep.
There’s an app and charging device for that
SummitSync is an app takes some of the struggle out of networking onsite.
The app combines a fun, easy-to-use social networking and discovery frontend with enterprise-class features for data capture and CRM integration on the backend.
A user sign-ups by using their LinkedIn credentials, selects the conference they are attending and swipes right (interested) or left (not interested) when event attendees appear.
This upfront filtering system and inherent double-blinded opt-in nature of the app, makes it an easier process to connect with only those interested in meeting as well.
When a mutual connection is made, in-app messaging, as well as access to the user’s email, calendaring tools and CRM systems are readily available.
SummitSync is a single download for all events that offers post-event reporting, relationship management and the upfront data and analysis needed to do business effectively. In other words, it’s a must have for event goers.
Apps require device charging solutions
When there are apps there are a mobile devices powered batteries that require charging. Event goers fear dreaded dead battery anxiety. They scurry around tradeshow floors looking for an electrical outlet and then stand or lean by a wall waiting for the red light to go green – all while attached to a cord and outlet. This limits the time event goers get to spend talking to companies they are interested to. When events have charging kiosks people are able to securely charge their phones without being tethered to the wall.
Veloxity is a company that helps keep customers happy and charged at events and venues and retail locations worldwide. Event goers can stay engaged using apps like SummitSync by powering their devices with a Veloxity device charging solution.
The power of device charging
Veloxity rents and sells a full suite of device charging solutions to events, conferences, conventions, trade shows, universities, hospitals, and other venues nationwide. Clients like Boston University, Red Bull, Travelers Companies, IndyCar, CES, Foxwoods, Verizon and others rely on Veloxity device charging units to keep customers and guests happy and fully charged. The product line includes LockerPower freestanding and wall mounted kiosks with lockers and Power Pax portable units. Veloxity is based in Boston, Massachusetts and is on a mission to cure dead battery anxiety.
Companies help make event connections
SummitSync and Veloxity are on a mission to help facilitate event networking, promotion and sponsorship. A match made in event heaven.
There are tons of stories about how startup founders become wildly successful.
Everyone has heard the stories of people dropping out of college to work on their startups, living on their friends’ couches, or eating ramen everyday for months.
TechCrunch does a great job of sharing trials and tribulations of founders with Founders Stories. Founders discuss their successful startups with Mike Abbott, General partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, previously Twitter’s VP of Engineering, and a founder himself.
Many of today’s most successful entrepreneurs have personal stories of clever and even risky ideas they conjured up to make their businesses successful.
AirBnB served Obama O’s
In the early days at AirBnB, the co-founders sold their own breakfast cereals. They purchased tons of bulk cereal, put together cardboard boxes, and branded them as limited edition, politics-themed cereals called Obama O’s, Cap’n McCain, and Breakfast of Change.
In just two months, they sold 800 of them for $40 each and earned more than $30,000.
Reddit created tons of fake accounts
Alexi Ohanian and Steve Huffman co-founded Reddit in 2005. When Reddit first launched, it had so few visitors that the co-founders created multiple fake user accounts and responded to themselves. By owning all the fake accounts, they could build the tone and totally create the direction of the platform as it now stands today.
The “fake it ’til you make it” tactic worked. As the real users continued to join, the fake accounts began to vanish.
As of January 2016, Reddit has 234 million monthly unique visitors.
Warby Parker rode a bus
The founders of Warby Parker bought an old yellow school bus and traveled across the country.
Warby Parker is known today as a brand that sells designer eye wear at a lower cost. It was started when one of the co-founders, Dave Gilboa, lost his $700 glasses on a backpacking trip and couldn’t afford to replace them.
In it’s early days, the team bought an old yellow school bus, traveled across the U.S., and created a mobile store called The Warby Parker Class Trip. The guerrilla-marketing tactic was to capture the viral essence of their brand. Since it launched in early 2010, the brand has sold 1 million pairs of glasses.
PayPal gave out free money
Co-founder Peter Thiel was a mastermind behind PayPal’s idea of borderless currency.
But when the company first started out, the founders paid new users $10 to join, and even more money for referring their friends. It operated at a huge loss to get traffic, but it paid off when they hit 1 million users in just over a year of existence.
PayPal now makes transactions totaling as much as $315.3 million per day.
Veloxity got cash from high school friends
When co-founder brothers Lucky and Krassi Popov got the idea to rent and sell device charging solutions, they hit up their high school soccer playing friends for a round of friends and family funding. The friends include co-founders who are students at U Mass Lowell.
Born in Bulgaria, the brothers came with family to Chelmsford, MA and soon graduated from Bentley University. They started Veloxity while in college in an effort to end dead battery anxiety for customers worldwide. Today Veloxity is industry leading, providing secure charging stations for sale and rent to people all over the country.
CES 2016, the world’s largest technology expo based in Las Vegas, brought in hundreds of companies, 170,000 attendees, and the latest consumer tech. Veloxity announced that the company was exhibiting at BizBash in a press release earlier this month. The team had an opportunity to attend some of the Event Innovation Forum and Workshop Series presentations, and mingle with like-minded folks from the event and meeting industry.
Those who didn’t attend the show, can always contact Veloxity for a cell phone charging kiosk demo anytime.
Since mobile phones have become a staple of our everyday lives, the importance of phone charging has grown. As we use apps more and more our batteries continue to take the hit.
Think about the amount of times that you charge your phone every day. It’s usually at least twice and if you’re going out somewhere you become that weary person looking around for an outlet or in search of a phone charging kiosk.
Founded by Krassi & Lucky Popov, Veloxity has aimed to tackle this problem by providing phone charging stations and kiosks to businesses and events.
Here is some insight on the two founders, what challenges they’ve faced, and the new product they’re getting ready to launch in early 2016.
How did you come up with the idea to start a company that supplies phone charging kiosks?
Low or dead battery anxiety was a personal problem and we needed a solution not only for ourselves but for everyone. After conducting months of primary market research, the answer that we came up with was phone charging kiosks with lockers, and that’s how we got our start. –Krassi Popov
What has been your favorite part about starting this company?
The best part about starting Veloxity is being able to delight clients on a daily basis. The clients that we have worked with have been amazed with our phone charging kiosks and it’s reassuring to us that we’re able to provide a product that people enjoy having. For us, there’s nothing more rewarding than pleasing a client who in turn becomes a lifelong stakeholder for our company. –Krassi Popov
What challenges have you faced running a company while still attending college?
Juggling schoolwork and Veloxity has been very tough, especially senior year when we were starting to see extraordinary growth – As I mentioned in a recent interview with Bloomberg Radio, there were many days I’d have to excuse myself from class to negotiate a big deal or national partnership. These challenges were overcome with a lot of focus and motivation. –Krassi Popov
What would you attribute Veloxity’s success to?
Our management team is comprised primarily of millennials who are all very nimble, energetic, and open-minded. This has allowed us to quickly adapt to changing trends and needs in the marketspace while our competitors are left behind. –Lucky Popov
What’s been going on with Veloxity the last few months?
The past few months we have focused on increasing our brand awareness by attending industry trade shows such as BizBash, Droidcon NYC, Event Planner Expo, and New York Media Festival. As a result, we have seen exponential growth in parts of our business, such as event rentals. –Lucky Popov
Going forward, what would you like to see Veloxity accomplish?
Every day, we are working hard to offer our clients the best products and value – with that said, Veloxity will be launching a new phone charging kiosk in early 2016, something that we are all very excited about! –Krassi Popov

- Secure your cell phones and devices. Be sure to password protect and lock your smartphones.
- Stay up to date. The latest software updates typically the have the best protection to these viruses and hacks.
- Use multiple layers of authentication (passwords, icons, usernames, and security questions) to protect transactions and avoid anyone accessing your account.
- Pay attention to cell phone bills. Unauthorized charges and increased data usage may indicate the phone has been hacked.
- Consider anti-virus software for cell phones. They aren’t always effective, since a lot of malware is downloaded and given permission by the user, instead of illegally infiltrating their phone. But it doesn’t hurt and can possibly help.

Many people do have a love affair with tacos, tequila and cell phones. Strange combination. But, they do heat up on heck of party.
Thanks to Eat Boston, about 200 guests were romanced by Tacos and Tequila, a sampling showcase on Saturday afternoon, August 15th at MOKSA in Cambridge, MA. Veloxity added to the affair by providing a commercial cell phone charging station during the event.
Tacos and Tequila was a showcase of tequila and mezcal. It was like a classy middle school science fair. Except there was alcohol and amazing food (tacos). Guests were able to sample 12 tequilas, attend cocktail demos, and devour the tacos. All of this while cell phones were being safely and securely charged in the Veloxity cell phone charging kiosk with lockers.
The tasty list of tequilas and producers represented at Tacos and Tequila included: Alipus, Ancho Reyes, Corralejo, Chinaco, DeLeon, Don Julio, El Buho Mezcal, El Jolgorio, El Tesoro, Espolón, Fidencio, Fortaleza, Ilegal Mezcal, Mezcal Amaras, Mezcal Union, Milagro, Mina Reál, Montelobos, Nuestra Soledad, Partida, Patrón, Roca Patrón, Sauza, Siete Misterios, Sotel Por Siempre, Suerte, Tanteo, Tequila Cabeza, Tequila Ocho, Uno, Dos, Tres Tequilas, Xicaru Mezcal,
Americans drink about 50 million liters of tequila annually, which is more tequila than is consumed in Mexico. The premium market for tequila has shown impressive growth, and National Tequila Day is July 24th.
Last year Americans ate over 4.5 billion tacos. That’s 490,000 miles of tacos, which could take you to the moon and back or, if you prefer, could, at 775-million pounds, equal the weight of two Empire State Buildings.
Today, nearly two-thirds (64%) of U.S. adults own a smartphone, up from 35% in 2011. Younger adults as well as those who are more affluent and have higher levels of education are among the most likely groups to own a smartphone.

The Veloxity team and their mobile charging stations are all over USA, including the MarTech (Marketing Technology) Meetup in Boston, MA.
There are many things to love about being part of the Veloxity team, including the ability to attend major events all around the country. The founding team experiences a wide variety of interesting events and meets inspiring people from all walks of life. The events include shindigs like the NEVY Awards, MassChallenge Pirate Cruise, PGA Tour, LeadsCon, or the Youth Marketing Summit, to name a few. The best part, however, is seeing end users enjoying the convenience of charging their mobile devices with https://veloxity.us .
Last week, a few of the Veloxity team members mixed and mingled with entrepreneurs at the weekly Thursday Venture Cafe in Cambridge – a space for innovators and entrepreneurs to converse about their projects.
The very same day, the team headed over to the Microsoft NERD Center for the Boston MarTech Meetup, where nearly 100 attendees soaked in presentations from these technology and marketing experts:
- Doug Banks, Boston Business Journal
- David Butler, iPositioning
- John Cass, OnSource Online
- Jeff Nicholson, Kitewheel
Opportunities to make connections with heavy hitters in the sector are incredibly valuable networking tools, especially in this increasingly digital age. If you see the Veloxity team out and about, make sure to ask them to point you toward the nearest mobile charging station!
The Veloxity team had the privilege of attending and charging up the awesomely innovative NEVY Awards this week in Boston. Not only did we get to rub shoulders with some of the brightest minds in New England – we also got to help keep mobile phones charged throughout the event using our charging kiosks!
This year’s New England Venture Capital Association awards event saw both plenty of partying, glitz and tons of innovation. Showcased in the tech category was the startup company PillPack, an online pharmacy service, and prized “unicorn” Acquia, creator of a platform to manage marketing services via the cloud in all new, interactive ways.
The NEVY Awards seek to establish the Boston area and New England as a thriving place for tech entrepreneurs of all kinds – and with space and expenses that are often a much better deal than those found in Silicon Valley.
The event also honored a number of healthcare companies, including the Hottest Startup winner Navitor Pharmaceuticals and the Deal of the Year, from Moderna Therapeutics, a protein expression platform with plenty of ongoing potential. These categories and others proved particularly difficult for judges, since a large number of biotech companies went public in 2014, creating a competitive field filled with potential entrants. Maybe next year we’ll see some drone companies flying around on the ballots.
Wayfair scored the prize for Exit of the Year. Hubspot czars Dharmesh Shah and Brian Halligan shared honors for Entrepreneurs of the Year (Shah was also named Angel of the Year).
While NEVY isn’t quite like West Coast events such as Disrupt, the focus is still on innovation, and this Boston gathering sure knows have to have a good time. Guests were charged up with disco music, dancers, open bar, disco balls, and of course the Veloxity cell phone charging station.
The event hosted more than 800 attendees. The theme for the night was “Solid Gold” and kept the house bouncing with 1970s disco music, which included gold-dusted go-go dancers who rocked the house complete with hula hoops and gold boots. Truly a night to remember.
What brings you here is why https://veloxity.us started this business – there is an emerging market for secure charging solutions in the hospitality and entertainment industry. With that said, by leveraging your existing network in these industries both parties can mutually benefit from this new market with a distribution relationship.
